Cut an MP3 into an Android ringtone
MP3 is the most widely used ringtone format on Android phones. It is compact, familiar, and supported by devices from Samsung, Google, Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and many other manufacturers. How to make the MP3
- Choose an audio file from your phone or computer. MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A, and FLAC are supported when your browser can decode them.
- Use the waveform to find a chorus, hook, instrument riff, voice line, or sound effect. Move the two controls to set the start and end.
- Preview the clip. Listen for silence at the beginning, clipped words, or an abrupt ending, then make small adjustments.
- Choose Download for Android to create a real 192 kbps MP3 file.
Set the ringtone on Android
After downloading, open your phone's Settings and look for Sound, Sound & vibration, or Ringtone. Choose Phone ringtone and select the saved MP3. Some devices have a plus button for adding a local sound. You can often assign a different ringtone to one person by opening the Contacts app, selecting the contact, and choosing a custom ringtone from the contact menu.
What length works best?
Android can often play files longer than 30 seconds, but a concise clip is easier to recognize and loops more cleanly. Start with 20 to 30 seconds. For a notification sound, use one to five seconds. For an alarm, a longer and gradually building section may be more comfortable than a sudden loud chorus.
